چکیده

In this paper we address the problem of retrospective shading correction, which is a necessary pre-processing step in many tasks of image analysis. Eight algorithms are implemented and compared. The performance of the algorithms was analysed firstly; on three sets of differently structured synthetic shaded and shading-free images, and secondly; on two sets of real microscopical images acquired by two different acquisition set-ups. The results show that the entropy minimisation (EMI) method outperforms the other methods in terms of the reduction of true intensity variations and preservation of intensity characteristics of the shading-free images. The strength of EMI is especially apparent when applied to images containing large-scale objects.

Retrospective Illumination Correction of Retinal Images

A method for correction of nonhomogenous illumination based on optimization of parameters of B-spline shading model with respect to Shannon's entropy is presented. The evaluation of Shannon's entropy is based on Parzen windowing method (Mangin, 2000) with the spline-based shading model. This allows us to express the derivatives of the entropy criterion analytically, which enables efficient use ...

Non-uniform illumination correction in infrared images based on a modified fuzzy c-means algorithm

The correction of non-uniform illumination and the elimination of shading artifacts is an important preprocessing task used in a great number of image processing applications such as segmentation, registration or quantitative analysis. Although, a careful and accurate set up of the image acquisition system may degrade the importance of a brightness normalization algorithm, non-uniform illuminat...

Evaluation of attenuation correction process in cardiac SPECT images

Introduction: Attenuation correction is a useful process for improving myocardial perfusion SPECT and is dependent on activity and distribution of attenuation coefficients in the body (attenuation map). Attenuation artifacts are a common problem in myocardial perfusion SPECT. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of attenuation correction using different a...

Color Homography Color Correction

Homographies – a mathematical formalism for relating image points across different camera viewpoints – are at the foundations of geometric methods in computer vision and are used in geometric camera calibration, image registration, and stereo vision and other tasks. In this paper, we show the surprising result that colors across a change in viewing condition (changing light color, shading and c...

Minimum Entropy Light and Shading Approximation

An estimation method for approximating the lighting of a multi-view scene is developed. It is assumed that a set of scene patches can be obtained with estimates of their normals and depths from a given camera. The effect of lighting on the scene is modelled as multiplicative and additive bias-fields, represented by spherical harmonic (SH) basis functions. Parameters of a weighted sum of SHs to ...
